Located in the Heights section of Shelter Island, the project called for the renovation and expansion of an 1800’s Victorian House.
Challenges included the restricted building envelope, the proximity of neighbors, the desire to maintain a street presence and yet the need to provide privacy for the Owners.
The existing Victorian was completely renovated to permit the blending of details with the new 1200 s.f. addition.
A series of landscape and architectural features, including brick steps, patios and arbors provide a layering from the porch facing the street to the enclosed private dining courtyard and the deck off the Master Bedroom.
Materials include: brick and bluestone walls, 2 sizes of clapboards siding, painted wood windows, asphalt shingles and zinc coated copper roofing and gutters.
